When: Thursday, August 20th
Time: 7:00pm - 9:30pm (Show up around 6:30pm for firm 7pm start!!)
Venue: ABC Centre 700 Harris Street, Ultimo ( Map | Directions )
Venue Details
The ABC Centre has some security issues, so it is important that people arrive early and sign in at the security desk so that we can take everyone into the building at once. Everyone just waits and chats in the lobby, so just look around for us if you're new. If you have problems you can call either of us. Many thanks go to the ABC for providing this venue.
Parking is possible at parking meters around thomas street and mary-anne street. But they take a 2 hour max i think. There are carparks behind the abc $15 (enter from thomas street, but on the chinatown side). Also, you can get all-evening parking at the Citigate (I think that's the name) parking station for $7 (starting after 5pm, I think, and stays open until well after midight). It's at the end of the Thomas street dead end (Eastern/Chinatown side), which is very close to the ABC's back entrance.
Agenda:
- Greetings and Welcome new people + Announcements
- Boris will look at some recent attempts to export module configurations (think install profiles, but better) in the form of auto-generated modules that can be checked into version control, reused and easily turned on and off just like regular modules.
- Geoff will be talking about developments on the signwriter module, and a new javascript technique for font-embedding
- Jeremy will be presenting an introduction to Drush, the command line application that makes installation and maintenance much quicker
- Anyone else is welcome to present on anything Drupal related
- Group chats - we will split into small groups and discuss topics of interest in an informal way. Great way of getting to know people in the group
Continued at the pub with + Drinks/food
Remember to sign up, this will also help us plan numbers/audience.
Post below if you can talk about something (anything is ok, everyone has something to share) or if you're are interested in other topics for discussion.

Font embedding technique?
I'm keen on knowing a bit more about the font embedding technique. Is it using css for font-face? Is it similar to sifr?

Hi Daniel,
What, you want me to tell you now and spoil the suprise? Oh alright.
It is cufon. Check it out on Google.
Also the adt_basetheme theme on Drupal.org has cufon integrated in the theme.

I think it went really well.
I think it went really well. Three great presentations on interesting topics. Thanks to Jeff, Jeremy and Boris.
Very informative
I thought the presentations on Drush and Features were great. I have set up Drush on my PC via Cygwin now and it is brilliant. As Jeremy said downloading modules is a lot faster. I had to hack Drush a bit to get it to work on my PC running XP.
Another fact about Cufon - Cufon renderes each word (as an image) seperately so the rendered word can flow around other elements and they stay within the parent element better. Signwriter renderes in one (multiline) big image and can break out of the parent element unless you specify a maximum width.
Further to a conversation on Thursday night - A module that makes backing up/downloading of your database easier is backup_migrate. It empties all the cache data before it backs up so you have less issues with huge database files.

Web Warriors doco
People who were at the Sydney meetup would have missed an ABC-TV doco called "Web Warriors" about web (in)security and infamous hacker attacks.
You can watch it on iView over the next couple of weeks on the ABC website:
http://www.abc.net.au/iview/#/view/414471
50 minutes long.
